This is one of Beauvoir's nicest traditions, the Maypole Dance at the closing chapel. Each year, the outgoing third grade class does a lovely maypole dance. After that's over, the children sing "Goodbye Brother, Goodbye Sister" as the third graders walk over the Great Crossing at the Cathedral and then the second graders move up to the steps where the third graders had been. It is a real tear jerker and I cry every year even though this was the first year I had a child in third grade. Lyra was the only reason I wasn't a blubbering idiot. She was thankfully well behaved but still enough of a distraction to keep me from being a weepy mess.
