La Llopetera 2005 Catalan Pinot Noir Tasting Notes

I have been on a bit of a quest tasting different Pinot Noirs, with a special emphasis on New Zealand. I had never had a Spanish (or more accurately Catalan) Pinot until the Llopetera. It is a great wine, very dense and thick. I like Pinot that not much light passes through, and this qualifies.  This is really good food wine for rustic grilled or roasted meet, especially something a little earthy. I tasted the 2005, but see also the review below from a Spanish website of the 2006.

Amazing Pinot Noir Catalan, organic wine produced by a family winery founded in 2003.
It currently has 7 h. of vineyards planted with Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Grenache, Carignan and Chenin Blanc. The Llopetera 2006 shows intense aromas of red fruits with well integrated wood notes. Dominates the fruit in the mouth with mineral nuances. Best served at 15 °, accompanied by grilled meats and vegetables.

Dragon Forest is Nearly Complete!

Will and his friends have been working very hard on an enormous project to build a medieval Japanese castle.  Their creation is Dragon Forest and it is nearly done!  The work, conducted at our home, over the past three weeks made an enormous mess but I am almost sorry to see it go because all the creative energy was GREAT!  Check out their work:

House of Vibe Allstars at Harvelles w/ @RampRateTony

My good friend Tony invited me to a party at his office tonight with his friend Eric Pulier and a bunch of other cool folks.  We went out for great Mexican food in Santa Monica, then to Harvelle's to see House of Vibe.  *Very* good band.  I love seeing a bunch of musicians who are clearly having fun just jamming and playing.  Hopefully work brings me to LA again on a Wednesday night.  The photo of the band was done with NightShot on an iPhone - I sadly did not take it, but I now have NightShot on my iPhone.  Thanks to Michael Oh for that photo.  (I think it was also post processed in CameraBag)

Denver Airport Train Tunnel

Airport train at DIA is slow. This is my third airport train photo and I think the faster trains make better photos.

Alexandria Children's Chorus - Ten Years in Harmony

We attended a very special concert today. Will sings in the Alexandria Choral Society's Children's Chorus. Today the Children's Chorus presented their 10th Anniversary Concert, "Ten Years in Harmony". This year, the Chorus introduced a new program, a composition contest for young composers. For the contest, Eva submitted a short song she made up for our family to sing as a grace before meals. Eva's song won the composition contest, so she was honored at the concert, and the Chorus performed her song.

I enjoyed the selection of songs performed, and I thought the Chorus Director, Mr. Carr, did a wonderful job conducting (I really enjoy watching conductors). This video was a quick edit job, trying to condense an hour+ concert. I reduced it to about six minutes, but that is still long by internet standard. This is an HD video, so if you play it full size (or full screen) it should look good. I have taken still photos of many of Will's concerts over the last three years, and this is a situation where video is MUCH BETTER.

You will see (and unfortunately hear) fans in almost every video clip. It was 90 degrees in Alexandria yesterday, and the air conditioning in the church where the concert was held had not yet been turned on for the season. It was very hot and sticky.

The video is also posted at Vimeo here which in my experience provides higher quality HD video streaming than FaceBook.

Enjoy!
